How did the van catch fire?

E-mail Print

Four persons were killed including two children, while seven others were injured when a van caught fire on the Elamodhara Bridge on the Kalutara-Horana road this morning. Pictures show the van which sustained extensive damages due to the fire. The reason for the fire is yet to be determined but the police say a petrol can was inside the van at the time of the incident. Pix by Sarath Siriwardena

Quite a lot of vans carry Petrol cans fitted through a tube to feed the engine due to economic reasons! Some vans don't have a working Indicator for fuel, some like to keep track of consumption & so & s forth.

Sudden blast may have caused the mayhem yet
this is very rare occurrence - "seven others were injured "
all of them badly injured they could not even pull out those trap inside? If there was petrol can yes possibilities are pretty rife

Time has come to the country to enforce strict law on road worthiness of a vehicle. Some mechanism should be developed to implement the law without any flaw.
